Description
This dataset comprises RNA-sequencing of the frontal cortex of male piglets housed either in barren (control) pens or pens with additional environmental enrichment. 8 weaner pigs (1:1 male:female ratio) were housed in each of 6 enriched pens, with litter, weight and sex-matched controls in the barren pens, i.e. a total of 24 pigs in each of the barren and enriched conditions. At 56 days of age (+/- 3 days) one male per pen was sedated at 1 hour from the introduction of the enrichment stimulus, and one male per pen at 4 hours post enrichment stimulus. From this total set of samples (6x barren 1 hour, 6x enrichment 1 hour, 6x barren 4 hour, 6x enrichment 4 hour), polyA+ RNA-seq libraries were prepared by Edinburgh Genomics and >30 million stand-specific 75bp paired-end reads were sequenced per sample, using the Illumina HiSeq 4000 sequencing platform.
